The Tata Varsity Pitch 2019, powered by NACUE is a yearly business pitching competition for early stage ventures, that celebrates the best businesses recently graduating universities across the UK.

Since the competition was open to recent graduates, we had the opportunity to apply in two categories, Ideas with TATA Communications and TATA Social Impact, simply by submitting our 60 second video pitch, showcasing our unique design solution and innovative idea to increase the availability of quality digital educational resources in poor and marginalised communities.

This October, we could be one of 30 shortlisted applicants that will be asked to pitch their ideas live at the semi-finals in London to a highly regarded panel of judges.  The winner of this weeks Online Peoples’ Vote, in other words the applicant who successfully ran the most engaging viral campaign and obtained the highest number of votes, will be joined by the finalists of each of the 6 categories.

The Grand Final will see the seven startups competing to win the £15,000 equity free funding and a national title bestowed upon them in Global Entrepreneurship Week, in November 2019. Each finalist will have two minutes to pitch their concept to an esteemed panel of industry experts, in order to become the 2019 winner.

To combat the severe shortage or learning material in the developing world, we are currently building a digital platform that will facilitate the donation of digital education documents, which will then be stored, organised and verified, making them available for teachers and students in need. This new method of charitable aid we’re calling #DonateADoc and it we hope to revolutionise the culture surrounding digital donations and knowledge share!

With the £15,000 prize money from the TATA Varsity Pitch Competition, we would be able to develop and create the prototype for our solar powered projector POD, that would provide access to the wealth of donated documents on our digital platform, without access to mains power or internet connectivity.

Further to this, we would also be able to travel to Tanzania with the International Development Organisation COCO to test our concept. We will travel with an incredible team including a researcher and media professional to ensure that our pilot study gets the maximum benefit and is well documented.

On our return we then plan to refine our solar powered projector and digital platform to ready them for the official launch. By the end of 2020 we plan to have 50 projectors in 50 schools in areas where they are struggling to gain access to a credible source of quality educational content, in the hope of creating a smarter world and a brighter future!
