Global Teacher is a charity committed to making digital education accessible anywhere, offline and off-grid. Our mission is to teach one million marginalised students by 2025.
Making Digital Education,
Digital Education. Offline. Off-grid.
We are committed to making digital education accessible anywhere, without internet or mains power using our solar-powered projector named POD!
Why, according to the United Nations, is 14% of the world’s adult population are illiterate? We believe this problem can be solved through design and innovation.
After extensive research into education in the developing world, 67% said that ‘lack of educational resources’ is the biggest barrier preventing individuals from receiving a quality education, for example, in Cameroon, one textbook is shared between twelve children. We also noticed, last year online giving grew 10.8% alongside the growth of distance learning and various other internet based methods of teaching.
We make it possible for educators and content creators to expand their reach and donate their educational material to our digital platform. This material is then filed, organised and displayed to schools in poor and marginalised communities around the world via our solar-powered projector POD.
Our mission is to teach one million marginalised students by 2025.
We envisage the creation of a positive culture surrounding the #donateadoc movement, whereby the incredible amount of valuable, digital educational content can be shared with those who simply don’t have access to such vital learning material.
All individuals, globally, should have an equal chance to learn, create and grow as human beings. Therefore, providing a fair opportunity to improve their standard of living and break from the poverty cycle and individuals empower themselves from a social, political and economic standpoint.
We believe in; education, design, impact, equality, innovation, empowerment.
making digital education accessible for all."
A Journey Through
Our Theory Of Change
Education Is Transformative & A Fundamental Human Right
“Education is the most powerful weapon in which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela. Need we say anymore?
But In The Developing World There Are Many Barriers To Education
In poor and marginalised parts of the world there are many barriers to education. These barriers prevent individuals from accessing education which is the necessary foundation to progress in life.
Leaving Over One Billion People Illiterate
According to the United Nations, 15% of the world’s adult population are illiterate. That’s over one billion people, in 2020, who haven’t had access to a quality education and as a result are more likely to remain trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty.
This is Largely due to a Lack of Learning Material
In poor and marginalised parts of the world there are many barriers to education. For example, In Cameroon one textbook is shared between twelve children. These barriers prevent individuals from accessing education which is the necessary foundation to progress in life.
So how do we Help? Currently Humans can only Donate Physical Resources
There are fantastic organisations such as Books2Africa who have donated over one million physical textbooks via shipments. This is an incredible feat but made us question if there was any innovation to be done around the distribution of educational resources.
Because The Current Process Isn't Really Efficient
Shipping books to developing parts of the world is amazing but it can be very costly and can take almost six months to get there, plus once the books arrive they typically become worn, especially in hotter climates.
So we Created #donateadoc, a BRAND NEW Method of Charitable Aid
#DonateADoc enables educators, content creators and those with valuable digital educational material to donate their learning material. Bringing quality, digital educational material to those who need it most.
And Pod, our Solar-Powered Projector, Displays the Donated Content to a Classroom in Need!
In rural parts of the world, the neccessary hardware to access digital education can be a challenge, that’s why we designed a low-cost, durable, solar-powered projector named POD. POD displays the donated documents offline and off-grid where mains connectivity and internet are uncommon.
